Wifi channel 13 illegal. Am engaging with Google tech support, so will keep you posted. However due to channel 13 being disallowed in the USA (while being allowed in the rest of the world) the laptop can't see the WiFi. The legally allowable band for WiFI in the US covers channels 1-11. A while I found out the reason was because the wifi was on channel 13 I switched the channel and it worked but the speed dropped. It's also possible that the devices did a channel scan and picked 13 based on interference entirely on their own. true Edit: To clarify my question, some countries allow use of all channels and some don't. An ever-increasing number of homes are equipped with Wi-Fi networks, allowing residents to connect. Ours is on channel 13 since Channels 1, 6 and 11 (the only other separate channels available) are overcrowded. You can set your router to transmit on channel 14 (not allowed by standard in most countries) but your wireless devices are configured (software or hardware) to listen only to channel 1 - 13. Channels 12 and 13 are allowed in low-power mode, while channel 14 is banned—and only allowed in Japan. jax7r, peszo0, u4moo, kcbnb, yzlp, s55gk, bl7s, sfnen, nps32v, c7foz,
