However due to channel 13 being disallowed in the USA (while being allowed in the rest of the world) the laptop can't see the WiFi. The legally allowable band for WiFI in the US covers channels 1-11. A while I found out the reason was because the wifi was on channel 13 I switched the channel and it worked but the speed dropped.
